Lieven Cambre Quartet

Lieven Cambré (alto sax, composition), Bram Weijters (piano), Jasper De Roeck (double bass), Jesse Dockx (drums)

For many years, alto saxophonist and composer Lieven Cambré (b. 1968) has been a familiar face in the Flemish jazz world. In 1996, he was one of the first to graduate from the jazz program at the Lemmens Institute (now LUCA School of Arts) in Leuven. Cambré grew up in Herenthout, but has long lived in Heusden-Zolder, where he is one of the driving forces behind the Muze Jazz Orchestra (MJO). It is no coincidence that he is presenting his brand new album 'Connected' in Heist-op-den-Berg and Heusden-Zolder, two places that are also close to his heart musically. In Heist-op-den-Berg he took lessons at the Municipal Academy for Music-Word-Dance, before teaching there himself for many years.

Over the years, Cambré wrote a great deal of music for the Muze Jazz Orchestra, as well as for the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and for his own projects such as QLC and MAMUTRIO.

With the Lieven Cambré Quartet, he chooses to give new life to some "forgotten" compositions from that repertoire, regardless of the special occasions or the special line-ups for which they were originally written. A number of new compositions written for this quartet are also on the program.

You can take the title of his new album, "Connected," literally. Without connection no music, no performance, no concert. For Cambré, connection between all elements of music and music-making, between musicians, listeners and the experience of it, is always of great importance.

Mitingu

Mitingu is a band formed during the IASJ meeting in Viljandi, Estonia on July 2018. After a week of intense rehearsing and playing Jasper (BEL), Juho (FIN), Timo (CHE) and Diego (USA) realized they should continue with forming a band. During this brief meeting of 7 days these four young men feld a deep connection between one another and experienced the music made itself when playing together.
During their tour in February 2019 they enriched the band with a very talented singer, Justine Garcia who currently studies vocals at the University of Miami. After the tour Mitingu had it’s first recording session and finished an album that will be released in august 2019 during their tour in Belgium.
Mitingu brings a mix of originals and arrangements on jazz standards.
